Nick here from One on One Testers, back bringing you my newest article for my First Impressions on the adidas AlphaBounce Beyond. Believe it or not, I scooped these guys up straight from adidas.com for just $40. There was a women’s pair available of the ‘Black-White’ colorway for $50, plus I had a coupon that got me $10 off. Here we are now. It saved me $60 from paying full price of the actual retail price of $100 for the mens pair. The mens and women’s pairs are nearly identical so as long as you go up a size or size and 1/2 in women’s, then you should be good to go. I saved myself $60 on these guys for just buying my size in a women’s pair, so these were an absolute must cop.
Anyways, lets get straight into this. First Impression wise… these things are LIGHT, and surprisingly improved from the original AlphaBounce. Just from initial try on and in hand looks, these feel and look sort of like a hybrid between a mid and low top. Also, another key difference between these guys and the original AlphaBounce is that the Beyond’s BOUNCE cushioning feels ever so plush/softer in hand, and on foot. A final noticeable difference is that the BOUNCE midsole almost acts as an outrigger medially and laterally to support your feet even more. You can totally notice it on foot too. If you look at the picture below, you should see a pretty noticeable difference between each BOUNCE setup. At first the ‘outrigger’ looks kind of weird, but I got used to it. Right from initial try-on, I knew these were something I was going to like wearing.
Just from walking around in these guys for a little while today, the BOUNCE is super comfortable. It gives me the best of both worlds, between a plush feeling on foot, as well as a nice outrigger to provide a stable base for my feet and feels decently low to the ground. Therefore, the BOUNCE is looking like a big hit to me. Materials wise, they’re pretty similar to the originals. We have what adidas is calling a ‘forged mesh’ upper with zoned support. In simpler terms, the upper is pretty much on par with the original AlphaBounce. One key difference I noticed is that the Beyond’s don’t have perforations in the upper, and feels/looks more of a knitted mesh then just a straight up mesh. It feels a bit more premium and still has some reinforcement on the medial and lateral toe area, and the mid-foot.
Finally, the last thing I want to touch on. The fit. Fit wise, I feel like they fit a half size big. Is this a surprise? Not really. These are more of off court/training kicks so I’m not too picky of how my kicks fit, just as long as I’m not literally swimming in them. I wear between a mens 9-9.5 in certain brands. In adidas I feel like I’m more of a 9. Since I ordered a women’s pair, I ordered a half size up into a women’s 11, because I’m more of a 9.5 in most kicks now. I thought maybe, just maybe adidas would give us a true fitting shoe, but they didn’t. They gave us another pair of shoes that fit a half size big. I wish I would have ordered a women’s 10.5. The 11 feels a bit roomy towards the forefoot of the shoe, but the overall fit/lockdown isn’t terrible. Once they mold to my feet, I should be fine. There’s no signs of heel slippage, and the upper is doing a pretty good job of supporting my foot, despite how flimsy it feels at times. All I can say is go down a half size in these, just based from my perspective. Wish adidas could finally fix the fit on their kicks! Overall, these things are great so far! Stay tuned for a full on performance review on them in 1.5 to 2 weeks.
