Thanks to Emmanuel Sampan, we provide you with your First Look at the Nike Zoom Freak 1 ‘Coming To America’.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s first signature shoe is currently set for a June 29th release date stateside, but it seems as if his Nike Zoom Freak 1s have already hit retail shelves overseas, specifically in the Philippines. We first reported upon the Greek Freak’s first shoe way back in January, after leaked images showcased the shoe’s tech, and a portion of the outsole. Thus, it’s pleasant to see the sneakers look to arrive to retailers in the U.S. sometime soon.
The Nike Zoom Freak 1 sports an overall emphatic design, displaying an indistinguishable aesthetic in comparison to current signature basketball shoes. Tech wise, a storytelling traction pattern, paying homage to Giannis’ father who passed away is intact. From previous leaks, rumors claim these will feature double stacked Zoom Air bags, while no word has yet to surface for the forefoot cushioning. A basic mesh makes up the upper, while a standard lacing enclosure, can be seen, with two flywire cables being intact. A large reversed Nike swoosh logo finishes off the shoe, being placed at the lateral midsole to cage the heel.
Colorway wise, these take inspiration from the iconic film, Coming to America, an Eddie Murphy classic, that I was unfortunately not alive to witness in theaters. A make up of white, and icey translucent makes up the outsole, with gold speckled accents within the translucent rubber. A leopard print mesh upper, with the film’s embroidered title “Coming to America” can be seen on the tongue.
While the June 29th release date has yet to be confirmed by Nike Basketball, keep it locked here for updates on the Greek Freak’s first signature shoe, that is likely to debut this Summer. Additionally, thank you to our main guy, Emmanuel Sampan for the photos. Let us know your thoughts on these in the comments below.
