NBA All Star Point Guard Kyrie Irving was traded to the Boston Celtics in August of 2017, with a package involving Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder to Cleveland, in exchange for Uncle Drew to Boston. Since then, this not only gave Kyrie Irving the opportunity to grow individually as a player and lead his own team, he can also collaborate with businesses all around Boston.
Concepts is a sneaker boutique, located in Cambridge, and several other storefronts across the states. Molding street, skate, and fashion into one. Having collaborated with big brands such as Nike and adidas, Concepts gives Kyrie Irving and Nike Basketball the opportunity for potentially the best colorway of his fifth signature shoe; the Nike Kyrie 5.
Just today, Nike Basketball and Concepts announced a creative partnership to release their own exclusive sneaker together; the Nike Kyrie 5 ‘Ikhet’. The beige upper draws inspiration from Kyrie Irving’s “hamsa” tattoo on his hand, paying tribute to the era of pyramids. Other signature detailing includes the bright red tongue, which experts say the the Sphinx Pyramid’s nose looked like prior to its degradation. In addition, the semi-translucent purple outsole, and midsole draw inspiration from the color of the sunsets that reflect the pyramids. Hieroglyphic lettering can be found on the left shoe’s tongue, while the chiseled ‘sandstone’ swoosh takes a nod to Kyrie’s spiritual mindset.
Wrapping things up, the Concepts Nike Kyrie 5 ‘Ikhet’ releases right after Christmas for the same price point as the general release pairs. Pairs will be very limited, and will be available at Nike.com and select Nike Basketball retailers. Will you be grabbing a pair? Let us know in the comments, and let’s hope the resellers aren’t the only ones to pick these up.
