Kevin Durant’s twelfth signature basketball shoe with the Swoosh has been nothing short of a success. Highly regarded as one of the top basketball shoes of 2019, the growth for KD after debuting his Nike KD 12, and signing with the Brooklyn Nets is just beginning.
The final retail debut of the KD 12 featured a multi-directional nub rubber outsole, a full length Phylon midsole perforated with holes, lateral TPU caging, a full-length Nike Zoom Strobel air bag articulated into separate chambers for flexibility, two layer mesh upper with quad axial flywire, while a flyknit tongue and flywire lacing enclosure finishes the shoe.
On the the other hand, sample pairs have surfaced online of the Nike KD 12, and this is your first exclusive look. From an initial reaction, many things have changed from the final retail pairs. A full one-piece flyknit construction can be seen for the build, while the tooling remains completely the same. A premium looking flyknit is used for the entirety of the upper, while a stretchier looking version of Nike’s renowned knitted technology is intact for the tongue area of the shoes.
The major change for the samples primarily includes the build of the upper material. Slight changes include pull tabs at both the tongue and heel to allow for easier entry into the shoe, a scaled down Nike swoosh placement, welded fuse overlays at the mudguard, and independent flywire lacing that isn’t stitched down.
What looks like it could be a solid performer, likely failed to contain Kevin Durant’s foot into the footbed. The nature of the flyknit in this sample pair appears to be fully non-constricted, and not backed by a fuse or any glue. Support issues likely made this upper build lacking, which led to Nike’s quad axial flywire innovation, as the tooling of the shoe from the midsole down remains completely the same.
Don’t expect this version of the Nike KD 12 to release officially, but be sure to keep it locked here for updates on KD’s twelfth signature shoe. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
